Symptoms of an Addisonian or Adrenal Crisis

An Addisonian or Adrenal Crisis is when your adrenals simply stop producing and your ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone). You begin to exhibit signs of the crisis and eventually, if untreated, you can fall unconscious from shock.

In my husband’s experience, he can feel an Addisonian crisis coming on. While he doesn’t exhibit every symptom each time an Adrenal crisis occurs, the symptoms are a tell-tale sign a crisis is about to ensue. If you are headed into an Adrenal crisis, you may experience these symptoms:

Ten Symptoms of an Addisonian Adrenal Crisis

Extreme Fatigue
Flu-like Symptoms
Lower Back, Leg and/or Abdominal Pain
Mental Confusion
Rapid Heart Rate
Rapid Respiratory Rate
Severe Dehydration
Unusual or Excessive Sweating on Palms of Hands and/or Face

While these symptoms may seem straight forward, if you or someone you know are experiencing these symptoms, you need to head to the hospital ER as soon as possible. If left untreated, these symptoms will cause shock, which can be detrimental – loss of consciousness, coma or even death may occur.
